NEW RULE: Securing Weights & Batteries

kart weightSAFETY UPDATE: WEIGHTS & BATTERIES

35MM WASHERS FOR WEIGHT (inside seat and outside weight) - Required Starting March 30 (Spring 4).

Our insurance company notified us that, due to a catastrophic accident involving a weight pulling through a seat, we need to ensure that all weights are properly secured with a 35mm washer, in addition to previous requirements.

weights1New requirements for weights starting SPRING 4 (March 30, 2024) and as part of your regular kart setup for any track time:

  • Weights painted white
  • Marked with kart #
  • Secured with 5/16" bolts (1 bolt for under 7 lbs, 2 bolds for 7+ lbs)
  • Double nutted or drilled bolt safety-wired / cotter pinned
  • Secured with a 35mm washer on the inside of the seat and the outside of the weight

Karts will not be permitted on the track if they are not in compliance. We appreciate your help enforcing this for the safety of everyone. If a weight falls off a kart during a race, it will result in a DQ for the event.

HEAVY DUTY ZIP TIE WRAP FOR STARTER BATTERY - Required starting March 30 (Spring 4)

ziptieAStarting Spring 4 (March 30, 2024) and as part of your regular kart setup for any on-track time, please use a heavy duty Zip Tie wrap to secure your onboard starter battery (suggested: 175 lb. Zip Tie) and label with the kart #.

Karts will not be permitted on the track if they are not in compliance. We appreciate your help enforcing this for the safety of everyone. If a battery falls off a kart during a race, it will result in DQ for the event.

ONBOARD CAMERA

In the interest of minimizing risk, please remember to hard-mount AND tether your onboard camera to the chassis. Please mark it with the driver kart #.

PRE-TECH INSPECTION / 2024 CHASSIS TAGS

Future 2024 Pre-tech inspections will include the above items for tech. If you have already had your kart tagged for 2024, please ensure compliance.

NTK 2022 Announcement - Night Lighting

NTK is happy to announce a new amenity at the track. Members will now be able to turn the lights on whenever they want to practice at nighttime without a fee.

To do so, you will need your membership/bathroom key to open the control box (the year inscribed on the key will change each year on March 1st, as will the lock).

At the rear of the tech barn, you will find the box next to the radio room door.

Open the lock and you will find the control panel.

To turn the lights on press the top left-hand button labelled “OVR” once.

New Procedure for Tire Purchases

As of Fall 5 tires will be a purchased through the NTK eCommerce store instead of the online registration.

It will be a separate purchase from the registration. We are doing this to help control our inventory to insure we always have tires for our customers.

You can find the link to purchase tires under the "Register" tab in the main navigation at the top of the page. Click on the "Tires" link once there.

Important New Safety & Insurance Requirements

There are some new safety requirements that we are implementing effective immediately.  Some of these requirements are related to changes in our insurance and some of them are things that have been discussed, at length, in the Board of Directors and the Membership Meetings.

1) Kid Karts
Kid Kart parents and coaches are not allowed on the track during races or controlled practice.  The Race Director and Corner Worker staff will grid up the kid karts and get them started.  Corner workers will assist kid kart drivers as necessary when it is safe to do so.

2) "Open Practice" on Race Days
The track will remain closed for all karts until controlled practice starts. Controlled practice will start approximately three (3) hours prior to the start of the race (10am for day races), as long as there is enough staff to fill all 5 corner worker positions.  Times and classes for controlled practice will be announced on race day.

3) Registration
The gatehouse will be open five (5) hours before the start of the race (8am for day races) to pick up armbands, rent transponders and get fuel and tires.

4) Wristbands & Transponders Required to Enter Track
The grid steward and the race director will be checking armbands and ensuring transponders are on karts.  Any driver without an armband and a transponder on their kart will not be allowed on the track for controlled practice.

We appreciate your understanding as we continue to strive for safety for our drivers and the improvement of our club!
